Message following the announcement
into the investigation of Jean Vanier

You are, of course, aware of the recent discovery of the serious actions of our founder Jean Vanier. We are shocked by these revelations and we unreservedly condemn these actions, which are contrary to our fundamental principles of respect and integrity of every person.

Jean Vanier had not held any further responsibilities in L'Arche since 1981. Here La Ferme is a place where he gave many conferences and retreats. However, since 2017, his health no longer allowed him to do so. We did not delay in developing a new direction following his retirement.

The leaders of L'Arche have confirmed us in our mission as a community of welcome, prayer, formation and the transmission of the values of L'Arche. Our vision comes from the experience of sharing life and friendship with people with intellectual disabilities in our communities. This experience of shared life remains very much alive in L'Arche. It is a source of human and spiritual growth for those who encounter it. It inspires our vision of the human person and his or her relationship with God. It is from this vision that we build our programme and organise our retreats.

La Ferme today is at the service of L'Arche to try to fulfill this mission to the best of our ability. It is in this spirit of welcome and openness that our community is happy to welcome you.

Tim Kearney, Director
and all the members of La Ferme
